  Really encouraged by what's going on at this church. We've attended for several weeks now, and American Baptist is definitely unlike Southern Baptist churches I knew growing up in Texas--not nearly as legalistic and pretentious. I haven't gotten a bunch of posturing and moralizing, either--refreshing for sure. Regular people go here to worship and study the Bible, and there's a lot of ethnic and age diversity--as heterogeneous as Omaha can be. The church building is old neo-Classical; just beautiful inside. They sing a mixed bag of hymns and contemporary music, with a spectacular old-school pipe organ that just sounds great. The pastor is a younger guy with solid theological education from Western Seminary in Oregon. His delivery is very solid, accessible, engaging, and grounded in hard-work and study. He and his wife are delightful, down-to-earth, and welcoming people. The church works to reach out to Mid-Towners in the surrounding neighborhood, including a food pantry on Saturdays. Easy access to/from Kennedy Fwy. Well worth checking out.
